Preface for "From The Prez"
I remember one of the first times I
got to hang out with Livingston Parish President, Mike Grimmer. It was
soon after he was elected to his
first term as President of Livingston Parish. He had heard about a church
you could only get to by boat {Our Lady of Blind River} and
wanted to go see it. It didn't matter that the church was in Ascension
Parish. He wanted to be on the water and see things. After talking
to him for a while, I asked him, "How in the world did a Republican like you get
elected as Parish President?" You see, we had been talking
for a few hours, I had consumed more than a few adult beverages, I thought I had
figured this guy out, and I was 'ready' to talk politics.
Well, Mr. Grimmer informs me that he is was NOT a Republican.
Shocked and stunned as I was, the only thing I could think to respond with
was....."Well, you certainly don't ACT like a Democrat."
We've been friends ever since.
